Ellen Hayward Ceramics

Ellen Hayward is a ceramicist based in Whitstable on the East Kent coast.

Originally trained in textiles, she likes to think of her work as 3-dimensional prints and use techniques including brush work and sgraffito to achieve a bold, graphic quality in her pieces.

Each design is originally created from a hand thrown form made on the potters wheel (even the foxes tails) with just a few small details being modelled on by hand later. Items are either individually made from thrown pieces or slip cast in small batches using her own handmade plaster moulds. All decoration is then applied by hand to give each piece its own unique character. No two pieces are exactly the same.
